Chansons Satie is a well-chosen set of pieces by Erik Satie (1866-1925) which aims to convey the
"classical" spirit while at the same time being open to different musical genres. Delicate piano pieces and
songs which are sung, whispered, talked and rhythmically beaten out make listening to this CD easy and fluid,
even in its desire to portray the complexity of Erik Satie. Considered a key figure, a brilliant innovator
in the artistic panorama of the 1900s, anti-academic and eccentric, Satie is seen today as the forerunner of
many avant-garde movements like symbolism and surrealism, but also of contemporary movements like the
Minimalists or the Repetitives and perhaps some New Age sounds.
Anyone who likes the progressive genre will like this composer who manages to anticipate our
times and perhaps to lead us beyond them.
